 FOR SALE : A PAIR OF HEAVY DUTY WROUGHT IRON GATES
A Pair of Rather Attractive Traditional Heavy Duty Wrought Iron Gates to suit an opening approximately 2.80m
These gates are very good quality and heavy, made in the early to mid 1950's, they are generally in very good condition but really need stripping and painting. The frames on both of the gates are slightly bent on the hinged side, (the right hand gate is worse) this could, I am sure, be straightened and sorted out with a lump hammer or sledge hammer prior to repainting. The gates both open inwards with the left hand one opening first, viewed from the outside. The perimeter frames are 25mm x 15mm with the scrolls and additional uprights made of smaller sections.
They are complete except for the angle and steel tube to receive the first gate and drop bolt. The set consists of the following two gates complete with latch and drop bolt, two top hinges, two bottom hinges and two retainers to hold the gates in the open position.
The bottom hinge is offset so that the gates will close automatically under gravity once released from the retainer. They will also work on a slightly rising drive due to the offset hinges which cause the latching sides of the gates to be higher than the hinged ends when they are open.
