FOR SALE : LARGE & UNIQUE 'EAGLE' GEORGIAN FIREPLACE MANTEL
This very unique pine and gesso mantel dates from the Georgian period and features an eagle right in the centre of the piece; a design we have never seen here before. Most of the eagle is flat against the mantel, but the head and the top of the wings are designed to be fully separate from the flat surface giving a 3D effect.

As well as the eagle and its surrounding decoration, there is a high level of craftsmanship displayed in the rest of the piece, including more gesso detailing in each corner (see pictures below).

The mantel itself is very typical of the Georgian period; elegant straight edges, carved vertical lines and finely detailed gesso work.

Restored and ready to install.

FOR SALE : YORKIST RANGE
Yorkist "Airedale" range.

We are just about to remove this range - carefully! - from its position in our sitting room.

The range is in full working order: the hood over the fire tilts in and out; both the warming oven and the main oven warm up (although not enough to bake, probably because we don't stoke up the fire enough - the room gets too hot!); damper controls appear to turn or pull in and out, although we don't know what they all do!

The fire surround/mantle is matt black, and appears to be slate or possibly a painted stone. We haven't yet investigated how it's fixed to the wall, but we presume there are standard "mirror plate" type screw fixings.

The internal dimension of the fire surround (width of the enamelled range) is 37", total height from the hearth to the top of the mantleshelf is approx. 46".

The grate is the only component that needs replacing, as it's burnt through - we use a grate from a normal open fire supported on a couple of bricks, which works, but not very efficiently.

All black surfaces on the range appear to be enamelled, not painted, and the surface is in very good condition, with no obvious chips.

FOR SALE : VICTORIAN HEARTH TILES CIRCA 1875
A stunning set of antique Victorian encaustic tiles for a hearth size 48 x 15 inches. Comprising 14 off 6 in square tiles with 13 border tiles.
The 6" tiles are 1" thick & the border tiles 0.5" thick.
A few tiles have minor edge chips but generally they are in good condition with the surface glaze intact & very little wear.
