 FOR SALE : VICTORIAN MAHOGANY SCOTTISH CHEST OF DRAWERS
This attractive chest of drawers has a rectangular top with a moulded edge above a shaped cushion drawer. Below are three graduated drawers with brass key escutcheons and original turned knobs, fitted with locks though keys are not present, and flanked by bobbin turned columns.
The chest is thought to date from the last quarter of the 1900's and has not been restored. Consequently its condition is in keeping with its age and usage but still retains a warm rich mahogany colour and shows good grain. The chest has been in everyday use over the last 25 years and its condition has been stable over this time.
There are visible signs of usage for example in wear marks where drawers have rubbed against their surrounds and one column can be carefully removed by hand. Other pieces of this type would typically have been raised on turned bun feet, and there is evidence on the base that the original feet have been removed.
It is thought that some 30 years ago the drawer runners showed grooving due to wear and plastic strips and filler were used to smooth the action. Of course these would need to be removed as part of any restoration.
Measurements are 44 inches (111 cm )high x 44 inches (112cm) wide x 21 inches (54 cm) depth
