Original Coalbrookdale Bench
The Serpent & Grape is one of the earliest Coalbrookdale patterns. This example has iron slatted back and seat, the end supports entwined with serpents and dogs' heads.
Coalbrookdale registered the design in 1844
We purchased this from the Scotish Highlands and from the family history this bench is thought to be Circa 1860
It has been stripped back to the bare metal and then primered, undercoated then 3 top coats of satin black.
It measures 6ft long

Buff Terracotta Planter
Measures 4ft tall and maximum of 32" wide (approx)
This is totally original comes in 3 parts, bowl, socle and pedestal
Purchased from a Georgian house in Halifax
In the Michael Roberts Collection sale at Christies in London on the 27/09/04
Just a pedestal exactly the same sold for £3585
Joseph Cliff (1806 -1879) the founder of a brick works at Wortley, North Lincs, also owned Mickfield Colliery near Leeds with his four sons, and Frodingham Iron Company, which in 1865 used coke from Penistone also owned by Cliff. Frodingham was one of the first to make steel in 1890 after a Frenchman, M. Toussaint was bbrought in. In 1889 Burmantoffs, William Ingram & Sons of Wortley, Joseph Cliff & Sons of Wortley, The Wortley fireclay Company, Joseph Brooke & Sons of Hudersfield all combined to become the Leeds Fireclay Company whose products were branded as lefcoware.
There are some old repairs to the item but these just add to its charm
The whole item is very stable and secure, it looks fantastic and it would make a fantastic centre piece to any period home.
It was designed for use outdoors - but would also look very nice inside the home
