FOR SALE : HAND-CARVED STONE PLANTERS; 17TH CENTURY; MALTA
These fine, hand-carved, Maltese stone planters date probably from the 17th Century, and measure 11.5" (290mm) in height. The details of provenance come from a well-known auctioneers house.

They have a rich & interesting history; the planters originate from a building, in Malta, called the Palazzo Parisio which was built on an ancient site of the Knights Templar and was owned in later years by the Portuguese grandmaster Monoel de Vilhena.

The Palazzo Parisio, situated in the ancient village of Maxxar, was purchased wholesale in 1898 by Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna, who subsequently remodelled the property during which time these planters were removed from the formal gardens where they are believed to have resided since some time in the 17th Century.
