FOR SALE : VINTAGE FIGURAL CAST IRON DOOR KNOCKER NOT REPRO

Spectacular vintage cast iron classically-inspired door knocker featuring a female head - probably a bacchante - draped with vine leaves and grapes. The design dates to the Georgian period but was revived at the height of the Art Nouveau / Belle Epoque style in Britain and France. The knocker also has wonderful high relief foliate carving and classic oval cartouche which could be engraved with a door number if desired. Measures 7.5" x 5.5" and is 2" deep at the deepest point. Larger and heavier (and more detailed) than the cheap brass repro versions which are so prevalent. This is a good weighty original Victorian/Edwardian casting primed with red oxide primer and with a fine low sheen black weatherproof paint finish. No original fixing bolts came with this but I will find a suitable pair to go with it. In fabulous original condition with no splits, dents, repairs or blemishes. Easily postable. Can also be brought to a forthcoming antiques fair at Swinderby or Newark, or collected from us in Boston.
