FOR SALE : VACANT ENGAGED, TOILET PENNY LOCK CHROME
A genuine metal coin operated lock date unknown rumoured to be from the old Waverley Train Station in Scotland. This model was manufactured by the lock maker 'Lockerbie & Wilkinson' from the Tipton works.
The item is in very good condition considering the public accessed environment it would have been commissioned in. Has been cearfully cleaned with no abrasive materials. It could be said to have a good patina with the chrome being worn only in expected areas (ie: around the keyholes and edges of the coin drawer) the interior bolt has some corrosion along the edges but nothing too serious and there are a few small marks on the front faces. I have studied many of these locks and have seen a selected few for sale. However I have found few that are as complete and functional as this one is. Also I have never before come across a Chrome plated model quite like this. Many of the ones I see are brass and missing keeps or keys.
Not only is the device complete with the manual override key, jammed coin access panel key and money container key. It also has its original coin collection drawer, chrome plated keep for the door frame, vacant engaged lever for the reverse of the door (with keeper!) and the two metal rods that link the parts of the lock together. The only piece that needs to be found is the interior knob that opens the door. However any modern or old lever should mate with the connecting rod as its a standard size. Works a dream with modern 50p's and is a real talking point.
