BOOKS : THE INVENTION OF THE COUNTRY-HOUSE STYLE: JOHN FOWLER
The Invention of the Country-House Style: John Fowler
The book highlights the projects of the eminent interior designer John Folwer, some twenty years after his death his work in some of Britains most important historic buildings are portrayed through the numerous illustrations, investigations of the Fowler schemes and insight into his inspirations. His work spanned many areas from private clients to projects for the National Trust throughout which one thread ran throughout, and that was his desire to create visually successful rooms. The Fowler style has come to be considered by some as the only style for the decoration of a country house and it is argued that he developed his own period style something that reflected contemporary taste. As well as discussing the work of John Folwer the book provides an overview of the conservation of historic interiors.

Extraordinary Interiors: Decorating with Architectural Salvage and Antiques . . . by Brian D Coleman MD, a US psychiatrist. The book starts with interiors in a Getty house featuring Nureyev furniture and Steinitz panelling where the self-building designer observes that the discovered objects create the style, a salvage truth which holds good whether you buy in Bond Street or find in a skip or dumpster. BOOKS : ANTIQUE GARDEN ORNAMENT: 200YRS OF AMERICAN TASTE
From Library Journal
Israel, an antiques dealer specializing in vintage garden furniture, fountains, and statuary, is well known in her field, with such clients as the Winterthur Museum, the Smithsonian, and the Baltimore Museum of Art. In this book, which the publisher claims is the most complete reference of its kind, she documents the history of American garden ornament from the mid-1800s to the 1940s. Individual chapters discuss the history and the evolution of a variety of objects such as urns, statues, fountains, and sundials, while later sections of the book provide an illustrated checklist of more than 300 antique objects, a list of manufacturers, and information on the maintenance and security of ornaments. For gardeners hungry to see the actual objects in situ, there is a list of 52 notable gardens in the United States (with addresses and phone numbers only). This book should appeal to a broad audience from gardeners and landscape architects to antique collectors, dealers, and historians.
