The flush lever is stamped '1125c. Circa 1900s.
Professionally refurbished to a very high standard and in excellent working order. It flushes smoothly and effortlessly.
The many layers of paint have been removed and the outer cast iron given a clear lacquered finish and the inner sealed and fully waterproofed. Please note that any lines and ripples are a characteristic of the original casting and not the restorers' finish.
This cistern is fully reversible with the emblem on both sides.
Beautifully crafted in solid cast iron, all the parts are original and it flushes quietly and effortlessly.
Measures 51cm (20") wide, 24cm (9.5") deep and 33cm (13") high (incl lid up to handle bolt).

 FOR SALE : VICTORIAN SHANKS GENTLEMAN'S BATHROOM SUITE For something really special, I have a 4 piece bathroom suite from Shanks which was supplied in 1898 and is beautifully enclosed in mahogany casing. This bathroom has been regularly used for the last 20+ years, but we are selling the house and I want to see if it can be found a decent home rather than be dumped in a skip by any new owners who want something white and shiny ! The pieces are;
1) 6 ft double ended cast iron enamelled bath with canopy shower in zinc at one end. Shower control is 4 position offering overhead and side jets
2) adjoining sitz bath/bidet again in zinc and again 4 position shower control
3) thunderbox toilet (not original pan and not original cistern) but still with brass insert where the crapper style handle is located in the seat box
4) washstand (original marble top with inset basin broken some time in past and replaced with something modern but cupboard is still good)
5) 2 sets of Minton tiles, mainly white but with a set of patterned borders, and wooden (assumed mahogany) moulding around tiles ... tiles form splashback over bath side and washbasin.
The suite is situated in my house, part of a large mansion property in the merchant's quarter of residential Nottingham. The bathroom is functioning but is ready for resto (re-enamel, re-varnish and replacement of non original parts). It would make an attractive package for the larger period house where someone is searching for something unique, original and complete.
