 FOR SALE : VINTAGE GOTHIC ART NOUVEAU CAST IRON LETTER BOX
Unusual vintage Victorian/Edwardian Gothic door letter box dating to around 1890-1910 with the distinct Art Nouveau influence. Cast iron, with a hammered finish, whiplash outline and angular lettering on the 4.5" x 1.25" letter flap. The backplate measures 7.1" x 3.25" (max). Strong vintage 1.1" fixing bolts and nuts are present at the rear, spaced 5.3" apart. There was no spring present when I bought this letterbox; we have added a strong spring so that it is ready for use. The rear is well marked with the registered number '479359' and presumably the design number '1936' twice. There are also small parts numbers on the backplate and flap (a '3' and a '6'). In fabulous original condition with no dents or repairs. This piece does have a very fine hairline split across the backplate on the left (please see the photos) but it is barely visible, has been invisibly mended and has not weakened the piece. This item is easily postable. It can also be brought to forthcoming antiques fairs at Swinderby or Newark, or collected from us in Boston.

A very nice solid oak tray with an applied repeat design in shades of green and brown and a raised egg and dark moulded frame.The shapely brass carrying handles bear the insignia of the demolished church from which this was salvaged - St.Dunstans. The tray measures 18" x 12.8" x 1.2" and the width across the handles is 20.4". In great original condition with no loose joints or other problems. A single pair of vintage Edwardian 5.2" x 3.6" pressed or stamped copper motifs with a raised Classical / Art Deco design of laurel wreath, berries and ribbon bow with pendant fabric swag. There are various points at which fixing pins could be discreetly positioned through punched or drilled holes, most obviously at the centre top. Polished finish. Hollow rear. No dents, splits or other faults. Part of a haul of similar antique hardware produced for use as decorative touches on items of furniture, fireplaces or doors. Three matching vintage American Eastlake style decorated bronze door knob rosettes / backplates. Each measuring 2" in diameter, they have a smooth raised design of stylized tree and flower motifs which have a strong Art Deco feel. The background is tooled with concentric circles and has an antiqued patination. At the centre is a raised collar with an internal diameter of 5/8ths of an inch with a hole measuring just under 1/2 inch at its centre. This takes standard vintage American door knobs and many vintage British and European knobs too. All in fabulous original condition with no splits or repairs. One of the rosettes is slightly 'frilled' around the edge from removal from a door but can be easily tapped flat. This item is easily postable. Well weathered wall cappings approx 18ft in 3ft and 4ft lengths, flat base - sides 3ins forming an apex to 6ins. Will suit a 9in wide wall - £150.
Also 1 pair of pillar caps (painted, but can clean up), square flat base forming a shallow pyramid. Will suit a 14in square pillar, very good condition, no chips or cracks - £50.
