FOR SALE : ANTIQUE STABLE DOORS OR PARTITIONS, WITH COLUMNS. Four doors and two columns.
These cast and wrought iron stable doors and/or partitions came from the stableblock at the Duke of Sutherland's Trentham Park, now Trentham Gardens, Staffordshire. The stableblock was built in 1841, and these robust partitions have a pre-industrial, thoroughly hand-made quality to them. Their outer frames have a slightly domed profile, rounded on the outer side. Corners are elegantly reinforced with curved block cast iron brackets.
Their bottom halves were originally panelled with 1.5in thick timber, there are regularly-spaced original holes for the fitting of replacement wood. The bottom sections are 51ins height.
The columns have flanged bases for secure foundation, and both have a series of sockets to accomodate division bars if required - see photo 4.
Each partition is 81.5ins x 41.5ins.
The cast columns are 84ins and 88ins.
Three of the partitions have loop type hinges top and bottom, to allow them to swivel on pins embedded in the floor and ceiling (or a crossbeam) if required. The other needs a piece replacing along the bottom edge - see main photo. They all have accomodation for lifting latches if required, three non-original latches survive. There are five surviving lengths of decorative moulded iron cross bars, though some repairs are needed. I have an excellent tame blacksmith available, expert at repairing and reproducing antique iron work should you require adaptations. The sections do not have to be assembled in the same order as shown in the photograph.
Antique stable fittings rarely come onto the market, these are ideal for the restoration or re-creation of a classic stables, or for inclusion as practical or decorative features in a barn conversion or rural restaurant. Contact : Keith John Ryan, Staffordshire, UK. Tel: 01782 283330. Price : £250
