 FOR SALE : ANTIQUE MILNES LATHE 1870 - 1895
For Sale: Antique backgeared and screwcutting MILNES lathe circa 1870 - 1895. 4.5" x 26" with detachable gap-piece to turn around 15 -inches in diameter. Complete with the correct period accessories including a 2-jaw chuck, a light-pattern "faceplate-mounted" 4-jaw chuck, ordinary faceplate, backplate, small wood-turning backplate, 19 changewheels for screwcutting, tailstock chuck, centres, assorted small parts and a good selection of turning tools. On the maker's cast-iron legs with a 1-phase motor-drive system. This is a very early example of the Milnes, a high-quality machine originally sold at a premium price. The faces of headstock and tailstock are elegantly "form milled" and all the correct crank-handles to drive the compound slide and carriage are intact - even the centres are the proper short "stub" type.
The mains switch would benefit from replacement, although it is currently functional.
This has been in the family for 50 years and is in good working order for it's age.
A real opportunity to obtain a piece of engineering history. £200
