FOR SALE : HANNAH PICKARD MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN
A rare chance to own a unique piece of West Yorkshire history.
Here we have the base section of a circular drinking fountain and water trough which represent the remaining pieces of the Hannah Pickard Memorial Fountain.
Hannah Pickard, a member of an Ossett textile manufacturing family, died in 1891 and left a bequest of £500 to provide a drinking fountain and water trough. W A Kendall designed the fountain which was completed in 1893.
The fountain was erected in Ossett Town Centre where it remained until the late 1950's. The fountain was then disassembled and relocated into Ossett park until I was tasked with removing it from there earlier this year.
I did consider breaking the fountain down and selling the components seperately. Indeed it would probably realise more money by doing this; but ultimately I haven't got the heart to do it and decided to sell it as one lot.
